IoT Global Connectivity Made Easy with iMatrix Programmable eSIMs for Nordic nRF9160 Cellular IoT Module

iMatrix Systems has collaborated with Nordic, the world’s largest international cellular data carriers, to provide low-cost EdgeUplink programmable eSIMs. These eSIMs are plug-and-play and work out of the box with the Nordic SDK. iMatrix offers a wide variety of plans with varying pooled monthly data capacities that operate in different zones, including EU, US, Asia Pac, Core Africa, Baltic States, World 1, and World 2.

OEMs can also benefit from iMatrix’s custom portal to monitor their SIMs’ data usage, network connectivity, security, and activation/deactivation in real time. With this service, Nordic’s nRF9160 cellular IoT customers can enjoy instant high-quality global connectivity without having to negotiate and manage multiple relationships with individual local cellular carriers worldwide.

Unlike traditional SIM cards, the EdgeUplink eSIM is remotely programmable and can hold multiple sets of local network operator credentials. It meets all relevant GSM Association (GSMA) standards. The nRF9160 SiP is significantly smaller, has lower power, and has more security features than any other cellular IoT module launched for LTE-M and NB-IoT applications.

The nRF9160 SiP integrates everything a cellular connection and IoT application may need, including a multimode LTE-M / NB-IoT modem, a SAW-less transceiver, a custom RF front-end solution from Qorvo, and integrated GPS support. It also incorporates Arm’s latest Arm Cortex M-33 CPU core, 1MB of Flash, and 256kB of RAM onboard memory. The nRF9160 SiP is certified for global operation, has unique IoT-targeted features, and is dramatically easier to design-in.

In summary, iMatrix’s EdgeUplink eSIMs and Nordic’s nRF9160 cellular IoT module provide OEMs with ultra-easy global connectivity and complete control over their data usage.
